The Mercedes EQA, type H243, is an electrically powered SUV from car manufacturer Mercedes Benz. Mercedes presented a concept vehicle for the first time at the IAA 2017. This was appropriately christened the Concept EQA. The production vehicle was unveiled online in January 2021. The compact Mercedes EQA has been launched by Mercedes as an entry-level model in the electric SUV segment. The EQA is essentially an electric version of the Mercedes GLA. It therefore has five seats and similar dimensions: it measures 4.46 metres in length, 1.83 metres in width and 1.62 metres in height. Mercedes promises that the EQA, as a close relative of the GLA, has all the special and much-loved features of this vehicle class and combines them with an efficient electric drive.

Drive and range of the Mercedes EQA

However, the Mercedes EQA goes its own way when it comes to drive. Its vehicle floor houses a battery with a capacity of 66.5 kWh, which promises an average range of around 350 kilometres. When driving in urban areas or on quiet country roads, 400 or more kilometres are possible. In winter and on the motorway, the range is noticeably lower. The range also depends on personal driving style and choice of optional extras. Mercedes gives ranges of between 411 and 438 kilometres for the EQA 300 4Matic with 168 kW/228 hp and the EQA 350 4Matic with 215 kW/292 hp.

As with the GLA, the basic layout of the Mercedes EQA is front-wheel drive with an upright seating position. Like the combustion models, the electric variant is also available with all-wheel drive. In addition to the asynchronous motor on the front axle, the Mercedes EQA 300 and EQA 350 have a permanently driven electric motor on the rear axle. The all-wheel drive variants also do not have a mechanical connection between the front and rear axles. The components of the power electronics are located in the cardan tunnel. The Mercedes EQA is available with three engine and drive concepts and different equipment variants.
