Cleaning the original Audi alloy wheels

We have some tips for cleaning alloy wheels, both for winter wheels and summer wheels, which will help you maintain the state of your rims. If you follow them, you will be able to enjoy your rims for a long time. Even if they appear to too complex, such as the Audi rotor wheels orb to be a little rusty, after careful treatment, some of them can emerge looking as good as new.

The rims should never be cleaned when they are in a hot state. Especially during a long ride, the rims heat up, causing any water or cleaning agent to vaporise. You should clean your rims regularly, since this is a sure way to prevent the accumulation of brake dust on the tyres. To clean aluminium rims, it is recommended to use a special rim cleaner that is suitable for them. Leave it on each rim to soak in for about 30 seconds. Afterwards, you can spray the wheels or tyres with a powerful water jet at a distance of approx. 10 cm to 15 cm. If your rims are powder-coated, it's best to use a high-pressure water jet. This way, you don't have to clean or scrub them mechanically with a brush and sponge. About three times a year, you should polish the rims with hard wax, so that the surface is well sealed, preventing lasting image to the rims by dust, rust and stones.

Audi AG: Leading through technology

Audi's official slogan speaks for itself. Even before its inception in 1971, Audi has been one of the most innovative car manufacturers in Europe. The current Audi AG can look back on a turbulent and extremely interesting history, which also serves as a reflects a piece of German history.

Origins and rise of Audi in Saxony

Audi's history begins in Saxony, which was a kingdom at the time. In 1910, the "Audi Automobilwerke GmbH" was founded in the city of Zwickau by the entrepreneur August Horch. He had to leave another company with his own name, “Horch”, only shortly before. As he couldn’t legally use his name again, he shortened the Latin word "audire" to "Audi" - the word means “Horch" (engl. listen) in the imperative in German. Basically, Horch used a latinised version if his own name for his new company. The first cars rolled off the production line in Zwickau in July 1910, and the company managed to steadily increase its profits. Thus, it was converted into a joint stock company in 1915. In 1928, the company ran into financial difficulties and was taken over by J.S. Rasmussen AG from the city of Zschopau located in the Ore Mountains. 4 years later, the Zschopauer Motorenwerke (DKW) was merged with the four automobile companies Audi, the original Horchwerke AG company, and Wanderer-Werke in the city of Schönau near Chemnitz to form "Auto Union", headquartered in Chemnitz - it became the second largest German automobile company at the time, second only to Opel. The company logo was designed as four linked rings representing the four merged companies - and it has continued to do so ever since.

Audi - new beginning and second rise in Ingolstadt

During the 1930’s and 40’s, Auto Union vehicles had an outstanding reputation and were considered the epitome of luxury. After the war, Saxony, and with it the Auto Union plants, were occupied by the Soviet Union. The company was expropriated and finally dissolved. A cautious new start was made in Saxony in the 1950’s with the founding of the VEB Audiwerk Zwickau, which was absorbed into the "VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau" and produced the cult car of Eastern Germany, the Trabant. These cars, even though their production was limited, are one of the most famous symbols for Eastern German culture today. Audi's real resurgence, however, began at the former Auto Union Central Warehouse South in Ingolstadt, Bavaria. There, the plants and capacities were large enough for the repair and overhaul of a post-war car production; a time when vehicles were needed urgently. The company was initially called "Auto Union GmbH", but it merged with NSU Motorenwerke, from the city of Neckarsulm, in 1969 to form the Audi AG. From its very beginning, the company was part of the VW Group, has alw<ys been able to operate largely autonomously.

Since then, Audi has enjoyed one success after another. Production sites have been established in numerous countries and Audi is the leading brand group in the Volkswagen Group alongside VW. The company manages brands such as Seat, Lamborghini and, since 2012, also the premium motorcycle manufacturer Ducati.
