What is the chain of custody document?
The chain of custody document must be attached to every vehicle that corresponds to the approved type: It must therefore be handed over when a new car is purchased. The manufacturer uses it to prove that the car complies with EU standards, i.e. that it has EU type approval.CoC is the abbreviation for "Certificate of Conformity".

What does the CoC document say?
It documents all the technical features and data of the vehicle that describe the model and are necessary for registration. For example: dimensions and weights, tyre size, rim size, fuel consumption and detailed CO₂ and pollutant values. The information goes beyond that contained in Registration certificate part I and registration certificate part II . All possible wheel/tyre combinations are listed under Notes. All these combinations are approved for the vehicle and are not subject to registration. Here is an example:
Apply for a CoC document retrospectively
Yes, as a rule this should be possible. If you do not have CoC documents for your vehicle or have lost them, you can obtain them from the Manufacturer request them from the manufacturer. This can be done via a dealer, the Branch or often via the manufacturer's online website for a fee. The costs vary: random checks with various manufacturers have shown a range of between 70 and 180 euros. In exceptional cases, readers have reported that they can sometimes be charged 250 euros.
However, this is only possible if the model has EU type approval. Cars built for a non-EU country generally do not have this.
