Audi RS4 Genuine complete wheels and rims
The Audi RS4 is the most powerful vehicle that Audi has to offer within the A4 series. This is not surprising, as the RS4 is a continuation of the RS2, which was developed in co-operation with Porsche at the time. This series has been continued since 1999 and its design is always based on the current model in the A4 series, hence the name RS4. With the exception of the Audi A4 B6, there is an RS variant of every model in the A4 series. The series is characterised above all by its higher performance. This can already be recognised by the production site, as Audi Sport GmbH - still Quattro GmbH for the first models - is famous for the high top speeds of its vehicles.
The original: The Audi RS4 B5
in 1999, Audi presented the first RS4, developed on the basis of the A4 B5. Even the first RS4 was able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds despite its kerb weight of 1620 kg. This was thanks to its engine with a whopping 381 hp. The increased power was mainly due to modifications to the S4 B5 engine, which also enabled an eight-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard. The fundamental philosophy of developing the RS4 as an improvement on the A4 is also reflected in other improvements. For example, some lettering was added to the RS4 to emphasise its status. In addition, the front bumpers and rear bumpers were extended with additional air outlets and honeycomb grilles. The door bumper mouldings were omitted, but the wings and side skirts were widened. Exterior mirror housings, window frame mouldings and twin-flow rear silencers round off the overall look. However, there were no variations in the body of the first RS4, only an estate model was offered. Later models could also be purchased as a saloon or convertible on request. Demand for this vehicle was so high that Audi had to extend the series, which was initially designed for around 3,000 units, so that eventually 6,030 units saw the light of day.
In the fast lane with the Audi RS4 B7
Although the RS4 B6 was skipped, the RS4 B7 more than makes up for it. Four years after its predecessor, the Audi RS4 B7 with its V8 + engine puts a whopping 420 hp on the road. The previously criticised lack of body options has also been addressed here and the RS4 is available as an Avant, saloon or cabriolet. With the RS4, demand for the sportier cousin of the Audi A4 B7 reached new heights. 14.368 vehicles were produced from 2005 to 2009, more than twice as many as the predecessor model.
The upgrades compared to the Audi A4 B7 are mainly to be found in the interior. A flatter steering wheel, stainless steel pedal pads and an engine start button in the centre console give the RS4 B7 a sporty interior. But the vehicle's fast nature is also evident on the outside. Widened wheel arches, a modified bumper and oval exhaust tailpipes make it clear that this is a real tomboy.
From 2007, two style packages were added to the RS4 B7. The Black and White packages brought new colour motifs to the range. As the names suggest, the RS4 B7 could now also be purchased in Phantom Black or Ibis White. In addition to the colour highlights, new 19-inch wheels and gloss exterior mirrors were also introduced. The steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake are covered in suede, and the Audi RS4 B7 could be lowered by 10 mm as an option. The car reaches speeds of up to 280 km/h, only then does the electronic locking system kick in.
The Audi RS4 B8, speed in the third generation
Three years after the second generation was discontinued, the third edition of the RS4 followed in 2012 and the Audi RS B8 conquered the market. Even more powerful than its older brother, the RS4 B8 boasted a 450 hp V8 engine and reached 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.7 seconds. Wide wings, renewed bumpers and xenon headlights as well as 19-inch rims clearly set the RS4 B8 apart from its A4 variant. But the difference is not only clearly recognisable on the outside. Inside, it comes as standard with aluminium pedals and leather sports seats as well as some lettering highlighting its own name. Unfortunately, the Audi RS4 B8 loses the wealth of variants of its predecessor and is only available as an Avant.
The Audi RS4 B9 - the finest craftsmanship from Ingolstadt
Since 2017, the RS4 series has reached its current pinnacle with the RS4 B9. Based on the A4 B9, this model is also only available as an Avant. Its V6 engine delivers 450 hp on the road, reaching 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Wider wheel arches, a flatter grille and new aprons, lights and a new bonnet give the RS4 B9 an exterior that is clearly distinguishable from the A4.
