BMW i3/i3s original complete wheels and rims

The BMW i3/i3s, internal type designation I01, is an electric car or plug-in hybrid from the car manufacturer BMW in the upper small car segment. After several concept cars from 2011 and 2012, the series version was unveiled on 29 July 2013 in New York, London and Beijing. The BMW i3 has been produced at the BMW plant in Leipzig since September 2013. The electric motor for the drive was developed by BMW itself and is manufactured at the Landshut plant.

BMW i3s from 2017

In 2017, a facelift was carried out and the BMW i3s model variant was presented. In addition to the visual modifications and changes, standard full LED headlights, a newly tuned driving stability control system and a more powerful model variant are among the biggest innovations that the i3 received in the course of its facelift from 2017. 

While the i3 still has 170 hp, the output of the i3s has been increased to 184 hp and the maximum torque has risen from 250 Nm to 270 Nm. To emphasise the sporty character of the i3s, it was lowered by 10 mm, given a 40 mm wider track and fitted with 20-inch original BMW wheels instead of 19-inch original BMW wheels, which are also slightly wider.

Powerful battery and range of the BMW i3

The BMW i3/i3s is offered with a drive battery with a charging capacity of 60 Ah, 94 Ah and 120 Ah. The battery is installed in the vehicle floor under the passengers and ensures that the BMW i3 has a low centre of gravity. The battery pack consists of a total of 96 large-format lithium-ion battery cells from the supplier Samsung SDI, which are installed in 8 modules. A conditioning unit consisting of heating and cooling elements is attached to the underside of the battery box. Depending on the equipment and driving style, the range is then 190 to 310 kilometres.

Increase the range of the BMW i3 with the range extender

As an additional option, BMW offers a petrol-powered range extender with 25 kW of power to increase the range in selected markets. With the range extender, the BMW i3 is offered as a plug-in hybrid. The engine is familiar from the BMW motorbike segment and will continue to be used in the plug-in hybrid model.

Maximum driving pleasure in the BMW i3 small car

As with the electric drive, the driving performance is very smooth and powerful - without a power gap or similar. BMW specifies a top speed of approx. 170 km/h. For a vehicle in the upper small car segment, which due to its size, range and compact design is used almost exclusively in the city, the driving performance is quite sporty.
