New standards for electric cars with the Model X  

Tesla is the best-known electric car manufacturer and is headquartered in the USA. In addition to the saloon models Model S, the Model 3 and the Model Y , the company also sells the Model X SUV. the Model X was presented for the first time in Los Angeles in 2012. The electric SUV has been on sale since September 2015. A special feature of the Tesla Model X are the gullwing doors, known as Falcon Wings. Thanks to their two-part design, they are particularly space-saving in tight parking spaces. The electric SUV offers space for up to 7 people. The efficient electric motor requires little space, so the Model X offers plenty of storage space with two luggage compartments in the rear and front. Thanks to the trailer hitch, the Tesla Model X can tow a load of up to 2.25 tonnes.  According to the NHTSA, the US vehicle authority, the Model X is the safest SUV ever tested and the second safest car ever, just behind the Model S. The Model X was modelled on the Model S luxury saloon. However, the Model X only has around 30% of the same parts as the Model S. Originally it was expected to have around 60%. Although it is an SUV, the Model X is only 8% heavier than the Model S.

The Model X is one of the first purely electric SUVs. Previously, hybrids were still very popular, but the trend is increasingly moving towards pure electric motors.
