What is the bolt circle?

The bolt circle indicates whether the wheel can be attached to the hub of a vehicle. The BC, as the bolt circle is also called, indicates the diameter in mm of the circle on which the centers of the bolt holes are located. For this reason, the dimensions of the car and the rim must always be matched. But which wheels fit which cars? How can the key figures of the bolt circle be determined?

Where do I find the key figures on my rim and how are they to be understood?

Now we'll explain how you can determine the bolt circle's key figures. On each rim, you can see exactly what size, type and condition it is. This can be recognized by a number and letter code stamped on the rim. This code is located either in the area of the wheel hub bore or on one of the spokes. Now we will explain to you, by using a simple example, how to understand and read this letter and number code.

This is what a punched hole may look like

7 J x 16 H2 ET 43 LK 5x100 Here, the LK stands for bolt circle and the 5x for the five bolt holes present. In this case, the 100 stands for a bolt circle diameter of 100 millimeters.

What is the texture?

The nature of the bolt circle can be very different. There are a variety of models. For example, with 3 to 4 or even 8 bolt holes. Therefore, the bolt circle diameter, the diameter of the individual holes and the size of the wheel hub holes vary. The wheels of the Audi A1 have a bolt circle of 5x100, for example the 16 inch winter wheels original Audi A1 S1 8X.
