Mercedes-Benz calls its luxury class, which consists of saloons and coupés, the S Class. The 116 series from 1972 is the first with the official designation S Class, but Daimler-Benz considers the W108 and W109 models to be the first representatives of this class. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is comparable to the Audi A8 or the BMW 7 Series, but dwarfs both in a worldwide comparison of sales figures. The current W223 series is already the eleventh generation of the S-Class and the seventh to be designated as such. In 2020, seven years after the introduction of the previous 222 series, the Mercedes S Class 223 series was introduced, with the market launch taking place in the same year.
What the New S Class brings with it
As with previous models, the current generation of the S Class is a luxury-class saloon. Unlike some of its predecessors, the 223 series is not offered as a coupé or convertible. The S Class is considered the flagship of Mercedes models and as such always receives a particularly high level of attention from the manufacturer. Mercedes uses it to showcase its latest innovations, thus convincing long-standing customers time and again to continue to opt for a car from Daimler-Benz. The current W223 series is no exception. Compared to its predecessor, the current generation is somewhat larger and does not hold back on Mercedes' latest technology. Many of these technical innovations are fitted as standard, but some are only available as options. Both the materials and their workmanship are, as is typical for Mercedes, of the highest standard.
With each new generation, Mercedes once again shows its prowess and demonstrates to customers and competitors alike that the historic company is far from history. In the 223 series, an autonomous driving system is also to be installed for the first time in the S class, but its introduction has been postponed until now. Once introduced, the system should be able to navigate the car through traffic jams at up to 60 km/h. In parallel, the Mercedes 223 series includes a Drive Pilot that can take over driving autonomously on warm days on the motorway. At market launch, the Mercedes S Class W223 was offered with a petrol engine, diesel engine, and a little later Mercedes launched the Mild Hybrid.
