The Porsche Taycan is an electric battery-powered sports car from car manufacturer Porsche. The Porsche Taycan was unveiled to the public in September 2019 and was immediately available in Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S versions. The model range was then further expanded to include the Taycan, Taycan 4, Taycan 4S and Taycan GTS. The basis for the Porsche Taycan was the Mission E concept study from 2015, which aimed to produce a battery-powered vehicle with a fully electric drive. Since March 2021, the Taycan Cross Turismo (Shooting Brake) has been offered and by November 2021, the Porsche Taycan without off-road applications will also be available as a high-end Sport Turismo. Regardless of the body style, the Porsche Taycan will always be offered as a 4-door model. The Porsche Taycan has four seats and a 4+1 seating configuration is available at an additional cost for the sports car.
Powerful Electric Drive in the Porsche Taycan
The Taycan is powered by 2 synchronous motors boasting liquid cooling with a system voltage of 800 volts. The drive battery is recessed between the axles in the vehicle floor and is offered in 2 sizes. The weaker battery has a gross capacity of 79.2 kWh. The stronger battery has a gross capacity of 93.4 kWh. Porsche calls the batteries Performance Battery and Performance Battery Plus. The smaller battery is only available for the two smaller Taycan models.
The power spectrum ranges from 408 to 761 hp, so just under 3 seconds is enough for the top model to accelerate the Taycan from 0 to 62 mph. A pre-production model of the Taycan achieved a lap time of 7:42 minutes on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, which is a new best time for four-seater all-electric sports cars.
