Porsche Cayenne: The noble SUV
The Porsche Cayenne was the first SUV from the Stuttgart-based company. Until the Cayenne appeared, the automaker produced only sports cars. With its market launch in 2002, the luxury SUV quickly found enthusiasm among Porsche drivers. Porsche built a plant in Leipzig for the production of the Cayenne, but from 2015 it will also be produced at the VW plant in Osnabrück. Today's main market for the Porsche Cayenne is North America, in particular the USA.
Porsche & Volkswagen: The Cayenne as winner in a risky game
At the turn of the millennium, the SUV market was still very small and clear. After sales slumped in the 1990s, Porsche took on this risky project in cooperation with Volkswagen. This collaboration resulted in both the Porsche Cayenne and the Volkswagen Touareg.
Porsche's requirements were very high: they wanted to build a five-seater family car that would meet the demands of an SUV. At the same time, the quality and driving dynamics were to be at the top level. The Porsche DNA was also to remain tangible in the Cayenne. Porsche hit the bull's eye with its version of a luxury SUV. The Porsche Cayenne sold extremely well and at times gave Porsche higher sales figures than the classic 911. The trend that developed from this was enormous: many car manufacturers followed suit and the registration figures for SUVs increased from year to year.
The first generation of the Porsche Cayenne, type 9PA, was produced from 2002 to 2010. During this time, there was also a facelift for the SUV. In 2010 it was replaced by the Porsche Cayenne Type 92A. Currently, Porsche offers the Cayenne already in the third generation, with the model designations 9Y or PO536. Since 2019, the Porsche Cayenne Coupé has also been available
